Gwangju Transportation Corporation (President Cho Ikmun) announced on the 27th that it has recently completed the installation of solar power generation facilities around Sangmu Station in Seo-gu and Sotae Station transfer parking lot in Dong-gu, Gwangju, and will become the first urban railway operator in the country to directly manage a power generation business.

To improve its profit structure by utilizing idle space, the corporation installed solar power facilities covering 3,043 square meters at the transfer parking lots of two urban railway stations and nearby unused land. Through this, it expects to generate annual revenue of 120 million KRW from a total facility capacity of 415KW.

In particular, to secure a stable source of income, the corporation adopted a direct management approach, handling all business procedures from licensing and ordering to settlement. It is expected that this method will generate more than five times the profit compared to the land lease model.

Additionally, by installing solar panel roofs in the transfer parking lots, the corporation plans to resolve citizen complaints and inconveniences caused by seasonal snow and rain, thereby increasing user satisfaction.

The corporation also plans to launch an additional 1MW-class solar power generation project on 11,800 square meters of idle land around Pyeongdong Station in Gwangsan-gu, raising high expectations for future revenue diversification and financial soundness.

President Cho Ikmun stated, "We are accelerating the promotion of renewable energy-related projects in response to the climate crisis era," and added, "As a member of the local community, we will continue to do our best to realize Carbon Neutral 2045 Gwangju."
