Gwangju Science Museum Parent Monitoring Group
Active for Nine Months Starting in April
Parents who once visited science museums following their children have now become key players in spreading scientific culture.
The National Gwangju Science Museum announced on the 27th that the parent representative monitoring group, "Science Bridge," recently held a preliminary meeting and launched its 8th term. Formerly known as the "Science Mom Club," the newly named "Science Bridge" symbolizes the connection between science, citizens, and the local community. This year, male participation has increased, making up a total of 33 members (6 men and 27 women).
This monitoring group is a participatory program where members directly experience the museum’s exhibitions, educational programs, and events, and offer suggestions for improvement. It is mainly composed of parents interested in scientific culture. Launched in 2018, it is now in its 8th term, with activities running from April to December.
Director Lee Junggu stated, "Your perspectives represent how citizens experience the science museum," adding, "Parents' opinions will serve as an important compass for the museum's growth."
This year, participants will enjoy a wider range of benefits, including free admission once a month to the permanent and special exhibitions (up to three companions), free participation in educational programs, activity allowances for completing monthly missions, awards for outstanding members, and discounts on science magazine subscriptions. Information about the monitoring group's activities can be found on the official SNS channels of the Gwangju Science Museum, including its website, blog, Instagram, and Facebook.
