Ambassadors from various countries including China, Japan, and Canada expressed their condolences over the human casualties caused by the wildfires that occurred across Gyeongsangbuk-do.
On the 27th, according to the Embassy of Japan in Korea, Ambassador Mizushima Koichi said, "I feel deep sorrow over the loss of many precious lives and the damage caused by the wildfires in the Gyeongsang region." He conveyed a message of condolence, stating, "I sincerely pray for the repose of the deceased and offer my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families."
Ambassador Mizushima also added, "I sincerely extend my sympathies to the evacuees affected by the disaster and hope that you can return to a safe daily life as soon as possible." He further stated, "I deeply respect all those involved who are still putting all their efforts into firefighting, rescue, and support, and I hope the wildfire will be extinguished quickly."
Ambassador Dai Bing of China in Korea also wrote on his social media platform X the previous day, "I express my condolences to the victims and offer words of comfort to the Korean people affected by the wildfire." He added, "I hope the wildfire will be extinguished promptly and the affected areas will recover quickly."
Tamara Mohyini, the Canadian Ambassador to Korea, also posted on X, "My heart aches over the massive human casualties caused by the wildfire that damaged historic cultural heritage and natural habitats." She expressed "deep condolences to the families of the victims." Ambassador Mohyini particularly emphasized, "(Large wildfires) are a familiar pain to Canada as well," and stated, "Canada stands with Korea and will continue efforts to overcome this disaster."
The U.S. Embassy in Korea also expressed, "We deeply mourn the losses and damages caused by this wildfire," and "especially extend sincere condolences to the families of the victims and all those affected, wishing for the safety and swift recovery of those impacted and the affected local communities."
According to forestry authorities and the police, as of 4 p.m. the previous day, the human casualties from this wildfire were identified as 24 dead, 12 seriously injured, and 14 lightly injured.
