Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST, President Lim Ki Cheol) announced on the 27th that Professor Hong Sungmin of the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science has published a new book, "Introduction to Computational Electronics Engineering - Semiconductor Process," through the university press, GIST PRESS.
This book, consisting of eight chapters, covers a wide range of topics from the basic concepts of semiconductor process simulation to practical CMOS process applications. It explains the principles of core semiconductor process technologies such as oxidation, diffusion, ion implantation, thin film deposition, and etching processes, and presents methods for analyzing them using computer simulations.
In particular, the book provides a detailed introduction to simulation techniques that have recently attracted attention, such as the Monte Carlo method and the level-set method, as well as important numerical analysis techniques used in the field. A notable feature is that readers can follow the examples in the book and write semiconductor process simulation codes themselves.
The author, Professor Hong Sungmin, received his Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Seoul National University, conducted research in Germany and the United States, and is currently an associate professor at GIST.
His main research areas are semiconductor process and device simulation, and he serves as an associate editor for the international journal "IEEE Transactions on Electron Devices."
Previously, Professor Hong published "Introduction to Computational Electronics Engineering" through GIST PRESS in 2021. At that time, he was unable to cover semiconductor process simulation, but this new book addresses the topic in depth.
Professor Hong said, "I have explained the key concepts necessary to understand and utilize semiconductor process simulation and structured the book so that readers can experience it themselves through practical examples. This book focuses on introducing the fundamental principles of process simulation, so it will be of great help not only to students new to semiconductor process simulation but also to engineers using commercial programs in the field."
