Strengthening AI and Software Capabilities of Local Media
Establishing a Systematic Training Program
The Pukyong National University Institute for Software Convergence Innovation (Director: Song Hajoo) and the Busan Branch of the Korea Press Foundation (Branch Manager: Jang Buyoung) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on March 26 at the Pukyong National University Institute for Software Convergence Innovation (Nam-gu, Busan) to establish a systematic program for "AI and digital training for local media."

Through this agreement, the two organizations plan to develop systematic educational programs to enhance the AI and software capabilities of local journalists, share and disseminate educational outcomes, and establish a cooperative system that includes support for instructors and educational facilities.
Through these efforts, they aim to foster key talent required in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and contribute to the spread of software education.
In particular, this agreement focuses on actively utilizing digital technology so that local media can effectively respond to the rapidly changing media environment. Practical training will be provided in areas such as AI-based data analysis, news production using automation technology, and digital content planning, thereby strengthening the competitiveness of local media.
Song Hajoo, Director of the Pukyong National University Institute for Software Convergence Innovation, said, "With this agreement as a starting point, we will continuously provide professional AI and software programs and customized curricula for local journalists, striving to nurture talent that meets the needs of the local community," adding, "We will contribute to creating an innovative media environment utilizing digital technology and lead positive change in the local community."
Jang Buyoung, Branch Manager of the Busan Branch of the Korea Press Foundation, emphasized, "Through this agreement, we will provide systematic training for local journalists and operate high-quality training programs that align with the trends of the times," adding, "As the media industry changes rapidly, we will spare no practical support to ensure that local media can actively utilize AI and software technologies."
Pukyong National University, as a software-focused university in the Busan area, operates the Institute for Software Convergence Innovation to nurture software talent and expand the base of software education.
Various programs are being promoted, including: strengthening software major education, operating software convergence courses, providing software education for non-majors, industry-academia cooperation projects, and software education for elementary, middle, high school students, and the general public.
