Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Sends Condolences to Victims of Yeongnam Wildfires in Korea

The Chinese government expressed condolences for the casualties caused by the wildfires in the Yeongnam region of South Korea.

Guo Zhaokun, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said at a regular briefing on the 26th, "Recently, wildfires have occurred in some areas of South Korea, causing casualties and property damage," adding, "China extends its condolences to the victims and conveys sympathy to the bereaved families and the injured."

The wildfires, which have caused damage to several cities and counties in the northeastern part of Gyeongsangbuk-do centered around Uiseong, are spreading uncontrollably due to strong winds. Since the afternoon of the previous day until now, a total of 18 deaths have been confirmed in four locations: Yeongyang County, Cheongsong County, Yeongdeok County, and Andong City.
