Power Outage Hits 93,000 Households Due to Substation Shutdown
A wildfire that started in Uiseong, Gyeongbuk, has spread to multiple areas, causing 16 transmission lines in the Yeongnam region to shut down. Currently, 4 transmission lines have successfully resumed operation, while 12 remain offline.
On the afternoon of the 26th, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy held an emergency meeting chaired by Second Vice Minister Choi Nam-ho to discuss emergency response systems by agency, pre-safety inspections, and urgent recovery plans.
KEPCO has issued emergency orders at its headquarters and business sites, with a total of 1,276 personnel on emergency duty. To ensure rapid recovery and response, 1,406 personnel from business sites and partner companies have been deployed to the field.
Due to the shutdown of Jinbo Substation and Yeongdeok Substation, approximately 93,000 households experienced power outages on the 25th, but 98.5% of power supply was restored through swift recovery efforts. Additional restoration is ongoing.
At nuclear power facilities, KHNP Hanul Headquarters has placed its own firefighting personnel and four fire trucks on standby. Firefighting equipment such as sprinklers (116 locations) installed along the perimeter and mountainous outskirts of Hanul Headquarters were also urgently re-inspected.
The government has also begun safety inspections of electrical facilities at 54 wildfire evacuee shelters and conducted safety checks at 49 locations where the Korea Electrical Safety Corporation was requested to dispatch emergency response teams.
