The Commission opened a public recruitment for the EBS president position from the 28th of last month to the 10th of this month. Afterwards, public opinions were gathered from eight applicants, and on the 24th, all eight candidates were interviewed, leading to the appointment of the president of the Korea Educational Broadcasting System (EBS) on this day.
Shin, who joined MBC as an announcer in 1992, served as the head of the MBC announcer bureau from 2013 to 2017. He was later appointed as a supplementary director of EBS in October 2023.
Shin’s term will last for three years, until March 25, 2028.
Meanwhile, the Commission dismissed a recusal request filed by the EBS labor union against Chairperson Lee Jin-sook of the Korea Communications Commission, ruling it as an abuse of the right to request recusal. The EBS branch of the Korean Federation of Mediaworkers’ Unions claimed that Chairperson Lee and candidate Shin had a special relationship, filed a report with the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission alleging a violation of the Conflict of Interest Prevention Act, and submitted a recusal request against the chairperson.
