Controller Recognizes Aviation 'Near-Miss'
Prevents Air Busan Aircraft from Entering Runway
"Reported to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport... Investigation Underway"
A Jin Air passenger plane heading to Gimhae, Gyeongnam from Japan landed on an unauthorized runway, prompting authorities to launch an investigation.
According to Jin Air on the 26th, flight LJ312, which departed from Sapporo, Japan at around 3 p.m. the previous day, landed on runway '18L' at Gimhae Airport at 5:35 p.m. on the same day. The originally authorized runway for the landing was '18R'.
At the time, an Air Busan passenger plane was taxiing to runway 18L for takeoff at Gimhae Airport. Fortunately, the air traffic controller recognized the near-miss situation just before Jin Air flight LJ312 landed and prevented the Air Busan plane from entering the runway. An aviation near-miss refers to an incident that hinders safe operation but does not escalate into an aviation accident.
The incident reportedly occurred due to pilot confusion. A Jin Air official stated, "We immediately reported to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport," adding, "An investigation is currently underway."
