Democrats: "If Yoon's Impeachment Trial Date Is Not Set, Emergency Actions Will Be Escalated"

All-Out Street Politics... Considering 24-Hour Operation of Tent Headquarters
"We Will Handle the Resolution Urging Yoon's Impeachment at the Plenary Committee"

As the Constitutional Court's ruling on the impeachment trial of President Yoon Seok-yeol is delayed, the Democratic Party of Korea announced plans to further strengthen their street politics if the court does not immediately set a date for the ruling.

On the 26th, Hwang Jeong-ah, spokesperson for the Democratic Party, met with reporters after the Supreme Council meeting held at the tent headquarters in Gwanghwamun, Jongno-gu, Seoul, and stated, "If the Constitutional Court does not set a date for President Yoon's impeachment trial ruling by today, the party plans to escalate the level of emergency actions," adding, "It is a situation where even the Constitutional Court, the last bastion of constitutional protection, seems to be condoning the constitutional destruction by the insurrectionary forces."

She continued, "We suspect that the Constitutional Court has already lost its function of protecting the constitution, and the party has defined this as the greatest crisis for democracy since democratization."

The Democratic Party plans to conduct an all-out effort at the party level by strengthening street politics. Spokesperson Hwang said, "We are considering converting the tent headquarters to a 24-hour system and having all members of the National Assembly begin an overnight sit-in protest in Gwanghwamun," adding, "We are also considering expanding the scope of the press conferences calling for dismissal held in front of the Constitutional Court to include special committees within the party, as well as heads of organizations and local councilors."

The resolution urging the impeachment trial of President Yoon, which passed the National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee on the same day, is expected to be processed at a plenary committee meeting as early as the 27th. Additionally, the Democratic Party plans to report the impeachment motion against Choi Sang-mok, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance (hereafter Deputy Prime Minister Choi), which was jointly proposed with four opposition parties on the 21st, at the plenary session on the 27th.

Meanwhile, party leader Lee will attend the second trial related to violations of the Public Official Election Act at 2 p.m. that day. Spokesperson Hwang said, "An emergency Supreme Council meeting is scheduled immediately after the trial, and if necessary, a party meeting, emergency actions, and urgent statements may follow."
