The Timber Distribution Facility Improvement Support Project aims to improve aging facilities of timber production operated by private companies and forest cooperatives to eliminate causes of safety accidents and enhance productivity of timber products, thereby securing competitiveness in the domestic timber market. Among nationwide applicants, Jinwoo Timber Co., Ltd., located in Gonjiam-eup, Gwangju City, was finally selected.
Jinwoo Timber Co., Ltd. (CEO Jang Byung-cheol), established in 1998, produces timber pallets, sleepers, lumber, boards, sawdust, and more.
In particular, the company holds patented technology (heat treatment certification) that enables the commercialization of dead trees affected by pests and diseases (pine wilt disease), contributing to the expansion of the domestic timber supply chain.
The city secured a national budget of 300 million KRW through this project and plans to secure an additional 120 million KRW to proceed with the project.
Through this, the city expects to automate the equipment of local timber production companies, increase the productivity of domestic timber, secure competitiveness against imported timber, and proactively respond to carbon neutrality practices.
Mayor Bang Se-hwan said, “I hope that the Timber Distribution Facility Improvement Support Project will create a safe working environment within local timber production facilities and improve the efficiency of timber production by reducing production costs,” adding, “We will continue to provide support to promote carbon neutrality practices and the use of domestic timber.”
