Uljoo Unyang-eup Wildfire 'Main Fire Extinguished'... Onyang-eup Fire Containment at 92%

The main fire in Eonyang-eup, Ulju has been extinguished. On the 26th, the Korea Forest Service Central Accident Response Headquarters announced that the main fire in Eonyang-eup was extinguished at 8:10 a.m. that day.

The wildfire in Eonyang-eup occurred around 2:10 p.m. the previous day in the Songdae-ri area of Eonyang-eup, Ulju-gun, Ulsan City. The Korea Forest Service, in cooperation with related agencies, deployed 13 firefighting helicopters, 1,240 personnel, and 91 firefighting vehicles to the wildfire site, completing the main fire extinguishment about 17 hours and 50 minutes after the fire started.


So far, no casualties have been reported in Eonyang-eup, Ulju. However, the Korea Forest Service estimates that approximately 63 hectares of forest were destroyed by this wildfire.


At the site, backfire monitoring and extinguishing of remaining flames are currently underway to prevent the fire from reigniting. The Korea Forest Service plans to investigate the cause of the wildfire and the damage area immediately after the firefighting is completed, in accordance with Article 42 of the Forest Protection Act.


In Ulju-gun, prior to the Eonyang-eup fire, a wildfire also occurred on the afternoon of the 22nd at 12:12 p.m. on a hill in Unhwa-ri, Onyang-eup. As of 5 a.m. on the 26th, the extinguishing rate of the Onyang-eup wildfire is 92%.


The Onyang-eup wildfire approached residential areas due to strong winds the previous day. Additional evacuation orders were issued for 10 nearby locations due to the wildfire. The estimated damage area of the Onyang-eup wildfire is 494 hectares. Currently, 12 helicopters, 2,010 personnel, and 101 firefighting vehicles are deployed at the Onyang-eup wildfire site conducting firefighting operations.
