"Political Circles Must Prioritize Public Safety Over Political Strife"
Ahn Cheol-soo, a member of the People Power Party, stated regarding the wildfire disaster that started in Uiseong, Gyeongbuk, "The National Assembly must review and implement an emergency supplementary disaster budget (supplementary budget) as quickly as possible."
On the 25th, Ahn wrote on social media (SNS), "This fire is an unprecedented large-scale national disaster with enormous scale and damage."
Ahn urged, "The government, led by Acting Prime Minister Han Deok-soo, must make every effort for total firefighting and emergency relief for affected residents," adding, "Especially considering the characteristics of agricultural villages and areas with a large elderly population, systematic measures at the government level such as provision of temporary housing, medical support, and living expense assistance are urgently needed."
He emphasized the need to prepare mid- to long-term countermeasures in response to this fire. Ahn said, "I heard that the United States is developing a system to detect wildfires early through satellites," and suggested, "We also need to quickly develop such an early disaster warning system."
Addressing the political sphere, he directly stated that the safety of the people should take precedence over political strife. He said, "Those who talk about 'Prime Minister Han's re-impeachment' and 'Choi Sang-mok's impeachment,' please consider the seriousness of the disaster site and focus on national disaster response and the lives and safety of the people."
