Korea Expressway Corporation has launched on-site preventive activities to reduce repeated fall accidents at highway construction sites. Falls account for more than half of the fatal accidents at construction sites.
The Expressway Corporation announced on the 26th that it will conduct a "Construction Site Fall Accident Prevention Relay Campaign" for three weeks until the 4th of next month. This campaign is part of the "Construction Site Fall Accident Prevention Measures" promoted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. The Expressway Corporation is the first participant in the campaign, which officially started on the 17th.
President Ham Jin-gyu personally visits bridge construction sites with a high risk of fall accidents to check whether safety facilities are properly installed and whether workers are wearing protective equipment correctly.
President Ham said, "To prevent safety accidents including fall accidents at highway construction sites, we will inspect vulnerable facilities and improve risk factors," and urged on-site personnel and workers to "consider safety as the most important value and carry out their work accordingly."
Ham Jin-gyu, President of Korea Expressway Corporation (far left), urged construction participants and workers to prioritize safety at the site near Byeokjin Nadeulmok Bridge in Section 7 of the Gangjin Gwangju Construction Project Group on the 19th.
Executives from nine headquarters nationwide, including the Seoul Metropolitan Headquarters of the Expressway Corporation, will also visit major sites where citizen damage is a concern to conduct inspections. Workers will receive fall accident prevention education once a day before work using the 'TBM Education Card.'
In hazardous areas such as work sites and rest areas, 1,340 fall caution signs and 536 prevention slogan banners will be installed so that workers can easily see them.
The "Construction Site Fall Accident Prevention Relay Campaign" will be sequentially participated in by a total of 15 organizations and construction companies, starting with the Expressway Corporation, including Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH), Korea National Railway, Korea Construction Association, and Korea Specialty Contractors Association.
