At the forum, under the theme of ‘Basic Society and Economic Growth,’ presentations and discussions were held on the role of finance demonstrated by the livelihood recovery support fund. Members of the National Assembly Basic Society Forum and the Basic Society Corporation attended the event.

Paju City introduced its Paju-type basic income policies, including ▲the emergency energy living stability support fund of 200,000 KRW per household paid to all generations nationwide for the first time ▲the issuance of local currency at the largest scale in the country, offering up to 930,000 KRW per person annually in incentives, along with support for taxi fare payments via local currency starting in April ▲and the livelihood recovery living stability support fund of 100,000 KRW paid to all Paju citizens.

Additionally, Paju showcased its Paju-type basic service and sustainable economy policies, such as ▲Paju-type public renewable energy projects ▲promotion of Paju-type public housing ▲operation of Paju-type community care centers ▲construction of Paju-type public elderly care facilities ▲establishment of Paju-type public banks ▲and the creation of a win-win economic platform, clearly demonstrating its role as a leading city in Korea’s basic society.

Having been elected as the chair city of the ‘Basic Society Local Government Council’ in October last year and leading a council composed of 26 local governments, Paju emphasized the role of local governments in the nationwide expansion of the basic society and requested support to ensure the passage of the ‘Regional Public Bank Special Act’ at the National Assembly.

Going forward, through the Basic Society Team newly established nationwide in January 2025, Paju City plans to implement policies in various fields such as transportation, housing, energy, and finance to ▲provide ‘basic income’ that increases income and reduces inequality ▲offer universal ‘basic services’ that meet diverse citizen needs ▲and realize a ‘sustainable economy’ through a win-win economy and carbon neutrality.

Mayor Kim Kyung-il of Paju said, “Basic society is a new solution that can overcome livelihood economy and social problems and alleviate polarization,” adding, “We will expand basic society policies across various fields to realize the Paju-type basic society and become the standard model of Korea’s basic society.”
