Festival at One of Seoul's Top Three Cherry Blossom Spots
Seocho-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeon Seong-su) will operate the ‘Yangjae Art Salon’ for two months from March 28 to May 25 during the cherry blossom season.
Yangjae Art Salon is an art market where small business owners, craft artists, and young entrepreneurs directly produce and sell handmade crafts and everyday items. It has become one of Seoul’s popular festivals, revitalizing the Yangjaecheon-gil commercial district and establishing itself as a unique local cultural event.
This year, Yangjae Art Salon will take place along the section from Yeongdong 1 Bridge to the waterside stage on Yangjaecheon and along Yangjaecheon-gil. Aligned with the cherry blossom blooming period, the last weekend of March (Friday to Sunday) and the first week of April (Thursday to Sunday) will be operated as the ‘Cherry Blossom Market,’ while the remaining weekends (Saturday and Sunday) will be run as the ‘Spring Market.’
The variety of sellers participating in the market has increased this year. Social economy cultural and artistic startup teams, including prospective entrepreneurs and emerging artists supported by the district, as well as local creators from Yangjaecheon-gil, will showcase innovative crafts.
Additionally, students from the Flea Marketer training course at the Seocho 50 Plus Center will also participate. Since 2023, the Seocho 50 Plus Center has been running the ‘Flea Marketer Training Course’ to support career transitions for middle-aged and older adults, and this participation is expected to provide valuable flea market operation experience.
Alongside the large art balloon exhibition of ‘Haechi,’ the Seoul city character who was popular as the mascot of Yangjae Art Salon, special cultural performances, an impromptu singing contest called Yangjaecheoncheon Karaoke, busking, and experiential programs are also prepared.
Among these, the must-see performances include ▲ the opening performance ‘Cherry Blossom Festa’ (brass band, dance flash mob, cherry blossom fashion show) on Saturday, March 29 ▲ the Children’s Day commemorative performance ‘Magic Concert’ on Saturday, May 3 ▲ and the finale performance ‘Opera Show’ on Sunday, May 25.
F&B stores in the commercial district such as craft beer, ice cream, and cafes will participate as sellers during the period, and the district will support interior improvements for these stores through the Artterior project. In addition, plans to revitalize the local economy include menu discounts, a gourmet walk stamp rally, and the operation of a commercial district map exhibition wall.
At Yangjae Public Parking Lot, a complex cultural space located on Yangjaecheon-gil, visitors can experience local lifestyle. The Yangjae Salon Hall (1st floor), refurbished in a classic pub style, operates from Monday to Saturday every week, offering a flower pop-up store, escape room games, photo booths, and one-day classes. The Seoul-style kids cafe, Seoripul Nori School (2nd floor), and the Seocho Single-Person Household Support Center (4th floor) also operate every Saturday.
Especially, as Yangjae Salon Hall moves from pilot operation to full-scale operation this year, an opening event will be held on the 29th at the Yangjae Public Parking Lot plaza. This event will also include the opening ceremony of ‘Salon de Garden,’ which added four themed artist gardens with the participation of garden artists following last year’s maintenance of the green space (formerly Lover’s Street) along the Yangjaecheon cafe street, along with a special performance by young Yangjaecheon artists ‘Salon Kunst,’ a green space adoption agreement ceremony, and an unveiling ceremony.
A special promotion held at Yangjae Salon Hall also draws attention. To encourage additional spending in the commercial district, customers who present receipts over 30,000 KRW will receive a special coin called ‘Yangjae Franc,’ and can participate in an event where discount coupons worth 2,000 KRW, 5,000 KRW, 10,000 KRW, or 30,000 KRW are randomly drawn from a 6-meter-high giant capsule machine called the ‘Green Monster.’
This year, Yangjae Art Salon will be held from the 28th of this month to May 25th. Provided by Seocho-gu.
Meanwhile, from April 3 to 6, the ‘7th Yangjaecheon Cherry Blossom Lantern Festival’ and ‘Move Salon Season 4: Cherry Blossom Atelier’ will be held in conjunction, allowing visitors to fully enjoy the peak of spring at one of Seoul’s three major cherry blossom spots.
Mayor Jeon Seong-su said, “The start of Yangjae Art Salon is a sign that true spring has arrived at Yangjaecheon,” adding, “We hope everyone will come out to Yangjaecheon to enjoy artistic crafts alongside the soon-to-bloom cherry blossoms, savor the fun and flavors of the local commercial district, and color the spring nights with wonderful performances.”
