In January, the Seoul-Sejong Expressway section from Guri to Yongin to Anseong opened, making it convenient to travel throughout the metropolitan area. Once Local Road No. 84 opens, travel time to Dongtan New Town will be reduced to about 10 minutes. A wide-area transportation network connecting major areas such as the extension of the Gyeonggang Line, Dongtan-Cheongju Airport metropolitan railroad, and the semiconductor expressway is also planned.

The surrounding area is attracting attention as a semiconductor-specialized city. It is close to the advanced system semiconductor national industrial complex invested by Samsung Electronics. The industrial complex plan for the Yongin Semiconductor National Industrial Complex was approved by the government last year. This complex will house six large-scale semiconductor factories, three power plants, and about 60 small and medium parts and materials cooperative companies on a 7.28 million㎡ site. The project is being promoted with the goal of starting construction in December next year.
