The 'Agricultural By-product Shredding Support Team' operated by Naju City, Jeollanam-do since last February, has been receiving great positive feedback from local farmers.

This initiative is effectively preventing illegal burning, thereby reducing spring wildfires, and also allows shredded by-products to be used as agricultural compost, achieving a dual benefit.

According to Naju City on the 26th, applications for agricultural by-product shredding for the first half of this year will be accepted at the administrative welfare centers of the towns and villages where the farmland is located until April 11.

If farmers apply one week before their desired shredding date, the work date will be confirmed through schedule coordination with the Shredding Support Team.

To prevent the frequent wildfires occurring nationwide, the city is prioritizing free shredding and disposal of agricultural by-products for areas adjacent to forests, collective village applications, and elderly or vulnerable farmers.

First introduced in 2024, the Agricultural By-product Shredding Support Team safely processed by-products from 91 farms, covering 45.9 hectares of farmland last year.

So far this year, out of 73 farms (26 hectares) that have applied, shredding has been completed for 51 farms (18 hectares). To ensure smooth operation of the support team and timely agricultural activities, the city will purchase and provide additional shredders.

Yoon Byungtae, Mayor of Naju, stated, "The agricultural by-product safe disposal support project is greatly helping prevent spring fine dust and wildfires, and is a significant aid to farms struggling with by-product disposal. In response to the nationwide increase in wildfires, I urge everyone to refrain from illegal burning of agricultural by-products and participate in the shredding operations."
