Friendship Blossoms Between Sister Cities
with Purple Aster Chrysanthemums
Officials from Geochang County in Gyeongnam and Hwasun County announced on the 26th that they held an event to share Aster chrysanthemums at Byeol Baram Hill in Geochang to strengthen the friendship between the two counties.
During the "Gamak Mountain Flower Star Journey" event held from September to October last year, about 300,000 people visited Geochang County, including Hwasun County officials led by County Governor Koo Bokgyu. During this time, the idea to share Aster chrysanthemums naturally emerged.
Aster chrysanthemums tend to weaken and stop blooming if kept in the same place for too long, so they need to be divided and replanted every three years. Accordingly, Geochang County decided to deliver part of this year's divided stock to Hwasun County, its sister city.
Hwasun County plans to plant the Aster chrysanthemums in the nationally renowned Dolmen Park, creating a "Little Star Wind Hill" symbolizing the friendship between the two counties and offering visitors a new attraction.
Geochang County and Hwasun County, which have similar population sizes, industrial conditions, and administrative capacities, have continued exchanges since forming a sisterhood in 2023. With this sharing of Aster chrysanthemums, they have further strengthened cooperation in the fields of culture and tourism.
On this day, Kwak Chilsik, Director of the Happy Rural Division, said, "We have carefully selected and sent only the best flowers, so when the purple blossoms are in full bloom this autumn, I hope you will remember Geochang County." He then delivered about 7,000 Aster chrysanthemums to Lee Youngil, Head of the Operation Support Team at the Hwasun County Dolmen Project Office, who visited Byeol Baram Hill that day.
