"Expecting Smooth Economic Circulation Through Priority Purchase of Local Products"

On the 25th, Icheon City in Gyeonggi Province announced that it will expand the priority purchase of local products to revitalize the regional economy.

Starting this year, the city plans to establish a separate operational plan for the priority purchase of local products within the jurisdiction and systematically manage the performance. According to the guidelines for the operation plan of priority purchase of local products, public institutions under the city will review the priority purchase of local products before requesting contracts for services, government-supplied materials, and goods.

To efficiently manage the plan, the city has designated the Corporate Economy Division as the management department and requires monthly reporting of purchase performance by each department. Additionally, the city plans to hold market reports at least four times a year and meetings at least eight times a year. Along with this, to promote products of local companies and support sales channels, the city will hold more than four exhibitions annually for small and medium-sized enterprise products and produce and distribute promotional booklets for locally produced goods.

Departments related to construction will promote the purchase of locally produced goods at large-scale construction sites such as private housing and encourage the preferential use or employment of local materials, machinery, equipment, and manpower.

Through this, the city aims to achieve a purchase target of 45 billion KRW from its own budget and 50 billion KRW from the private sector budget for locally produced products this year.

Meanwhile, the city enacted the "Icheon City Ordinance on Priority Purchase of Local Products" in 2019 and has been implementing the priority purchase system since then. Last year, the public sector achieved 38.8 billion KRW, and the investment, contribution, consignment, and private sectors achieved 40.9 billion KRW, earning the highest grade "S" in the government joint evaluation based on the performance of purchasing goods from small and medium-sized enterprises.

Kim Kyung-hee, Mayor of Icheon City, said, "We hope that the priority purchase of products from local companies, which form the foundation of the regional economy, will bring some vitality to businesses and facilitate smooth economic circulation."
