Colorado State Legislature Decides to Replace Trump Portrait
President Trump Criticizes "Distorted" Image, Calls for Removal
Portrait by Sarah Boardman Draws Public Attention After Controversy
The Colorado State Legislature in the United States has decided to remove the portrait of President Donald Trump that was hanging in the state capitol. This decision came after President Trump expressed dissatisfaction with the portrait.
According to the Associated Press on the 24th (local time), the Colorado House Democrats announced that they would accept the Republican Party's request to remove President Trump's portrait.
Earlier, the Republicans requested that the current portrait be taken down and replaced with a modern depiction of President Trump.
The Colorado Republican Party raised over $10,000 through the online fundraising site GoFundMe to commission the portrait of President Trump, which was unveiled in August 2019.
On the night of the 23rd, President Trump expressed dissatisfaction, saying that his image in the portrait was "distorted" and that he would rather have no painting at all.
He criticized on the social media platform Truth Social, "No one likes a bad picture or portrait of themselves, but that portrait in Colorado, along with the governor and all the presidents, was deliberately distorted. It’s probably the most distorted portrait I’ve ever seen."
On the other hand, he praised the portrait of former President Barack Obama, which hangs alongside his, saying it "looks great."
Both the portraits of Trump and Obama were created by Sarah Boardman, a British-born artist residing in Colorado.
After President Trump voiced his dissatisfaction, the Colorado legislature has reportedly seen a steady flow of visitors coming to take commemorative photos in front of his portrait, according to the AP.
