Chenchen (千千), China's 'Millennium Baby' born exactly at midnight on January 1, 2000, has passed away at the age of 25. The cause of death was acute cardiac death due to a sudden heart-related issue.

According to local media such as Pengpai News on the 25th, Chenchen's mother announced her daughter's obituary the day before, writing, "Our daughter, who was born amid the fireworks and cheers of the new millennium, has left us," and added, "I hope she feels that this world was worth coming to from heaven." She continued, "We thank everyone who cherished and mourned her," and said, "Chenchen was our family's daughter, but as a symbolic figure known as the 'Millennium Baby,' she was not just our family's child."

Chenchen was reported to have died from acute cardiac death around 5 a.m. on the 9th. Acute cardiac death refers to natural death caused by heart-related problems such as acute cardiac arrest and severe arrhythmia, and it is not uncommon in China, with over 500,000 related deaths annually.

Chenchen also passed away suddenly. She worked as a contract pianist at a hotel in Tianjin and reportedly caught a cold earlier this month but was afraid to burden her colleagues and did not seek medical attention. When she arrived in her hometown of Zhangzi County, Shanxi Province, on a long-distance bus on the 8th, her body temperature exceeded 40 degrees Celsius, and she lost consciousness at a hospital the next early morning and did not regain it.

Chenchen was born exactly at midnight on January 1, 2000, and was called "China's Millennial Baby," "the first girl of 21st-century China," and "the New Millennium Baby." Chenchen's mother said, "I entered the delivery room at 3 p.m. on December 31, 1999, but the baby inside was reluctant to come out. Then, at 11:59 p.m., during the countdown to the millennium, she gave birth to a daughter weighing 4.2 kg exactly at 0:00 on New Year's Day. Accordingly, we named her Chenchen, meaning 'thousand years.'"

Chinese people are mourning the death of someone who showed innate talent in drawing and composing music and lived a fulfilling life to the extent of obtaining a scuba diving license. Online, tributes to Chenchen continue to pour in, and at one point, news of her death ranked first on Weibo's popular search list.
