Talent Donation Events in Judo and Kendo Held in Namyangju
Olympic Medalist An Baul and Top Kendo Players Share Skills with Locals
Namyangju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Joo Gwang-deok) announced on the 25th that it successfully held a Kendo and Judo talent donation event with the participation of about 200 citizens on the 22nd at Geumgok Indoor Gymnasium and Geumgok High School Judo Hall.
At the Judo event that day, An Ba-ul, the bronze medalist in the mixed team event at the 33rd Paris Olympics in 2024, took time to teach citizens basic postures and breakfall techniques.
Also, at the Kendo event, players belonging to the city’s workplace sports team, including Choi Kang, the top-ranked player in the 3rd Dan division at the 2024 Korea Kendo Association President’s National Corporate Kendo Championship, demonstrated basic movements and sparring techniques to communicate with the citizens.
A parent who participated in the event with their child said, “It was impressive to see my child focus more and learn as athletes active on the world stage personally taught everything from basics to practical techniques,” adding, “I hope there will be more opportunities for such high-level education.”
An official from Namyangju City said, “Namyangju City plans to continuously promote various talent donation activities to expand the base of community sports,” and added, “We will actively support citizens to easily access various sports and receive professional guidance from elite athletes.”
Namyangju City plans to hold various events by sport, including Judo (every third Saturday of the month), Kendo (every other Saturday), Athletics (from April to October, every Monday and Saturday), and Soccer (flexibly operated according to Namyangju FC’s schedule).
