Under the 8th elected administration, Gimpo City has moved beyond the parochial perspective of "just among ourselves in Gimpo" to resolve local issues through external communication and cooperation. Mayor Kim Byung-su stated in his New Year's address this year, "We will send Gimpo's potential to a bigger world and make it a city where opportunities come."
Gimpo City is determined to further strengthen regional competitiveness by cooperating in industry and economy and revitalizing cultural and tourism exchanges through friendly exchanges with Wonju City, the economic and cultural hub of Gangwon Province, which is leading corporate attraction and industrial development.
This agreement was initiated at the proposal of Wonju City, and both cities agreed to closely cooperate for mutual development in various fields such as economy, culture, and tourism.
Mayor Kim Byung-su of Gimpo said, "This agreement is not just a simple signature but will serve as a solid foundation for active exchanges and mutual development between the two cities in various fields including economy, culture, education, and tourism," adding, "Gimpo City will continue to do its best to expand domestic and international exchanges and leap forward as a global city."
Meanwhile, Gimpo City has been striving to expand friendship cities domestically and internationally and to discover cooperative projects for growth as a global city. Currently, Gimpo has friendship agreements with four domestic cities: ▲Sangju City, Gyeongbuk ▲Haenam County, Jeonnam ▲Dongjak District, Seoul ▲Gapyeong County, Gyeonggi, as well as with ▲Hatexi City, China and ▲Glendale City, USA.
In addition, Gimpo is enhancing its international stature by engaging in friendly exchange discussions at the request of overseas cities such as Thu Duc City, Vietnam and Serbia recently, and it is expected that the agreement with Wonju City will further broaden the scope of domestic and international exchange cooperation.
