April 1, Near Poeun Bridge on Naengcheon, Ocheon-eup, '2025 Tree Planting Event'
Commemorating the 80th Arbor Day and the Achievement of the 20 Million Trees of Life Planting Campaign
Pohang City will hold the '2025 Tree Planting Event' on April 1 at 2:00 PM near Poeun Bridge on Naengcheon, Ocheon-eup, Nam-gu, to mark the 80th Arbor Day.
This event, which also commemorates the achievement of the '20 Million Trees of Life Planting Campaign' goal pursued since 2017 for the creation of a green city, will include sharing the results of past efforts, tree planting by citizens in designated zones, and the distribution of seedlings and companion plants.
Citizens participating in the event will personally plant about 10,000 trees, including cherry trees, Ipop trees, and Emperor oak trees, along a 1.6 km stretch of roadside from Wonyonggyo to Mundeokgyo on Naengcheon, creating a lush green boulevard in the area.
With this event, Naengcheon, currently undergoing disaster recovery work due to typhoon damage, is expected to be reborn as a space of restoration.
Additionally, fruit tree seedlings such as sweet persimmon and apricot trees will be distributed free of charge to participants, encouraging citizens to directly take part in building a green city and tree planting. Moving forward, the city plans to continue registering external projects for the greenhouse gas emissions trading scheme through the creation of large urban forests.
Groups of 20 or more wishing to participate in the tree planting event can apply in advance, while individuals can simply visit the event venue on the day wearing comfortable clothes and sneakers.
For smooth event proceedings, one lane of the three-lane road from Mundeokgyo toward Wonyonggyo will be partially closed on the day of the event, so attendees are encouraged to use public transportation.
Vehicles can be parked at the temporary public parking lot in Ocheon Won-ri (in front of Poeun Middle School) or along the roadside and side streets.
Mayor Lee Kangdeok stated, "The trees planted together by citizens will become the forest that opens the future of Pohang," and added, "I hope many citizens will participate so that Arbor Day can be a meaningful time to plant and care for trees firsthand."
Pohang City is also running the 'Forest of Participation' project, where companies, institutions, and organizations can donate and participate in planting and managing trees. Those interested in joining can contact the Pohang City Greenway Promotion Division.
