While the number of electric kickboard users is exploding, dangerous behaviors such as unlicensed driving, not wearing helmets, carrying more than one passenger, and riding on sidewalks are also increasing.
In response, the city has launched a strong campaign to establish a proper culture of electric kickboard use and prevent accidents.
In particular, this campaign saw a large-scale joint effort from the public, private, and police sectors, including Yangju City, the Yangju Green Mothers' Association, Yangju Police Station, and Dongducheon Yangju Office of Education.
Participants in the campaign distributed flyers and promotional materials, strongly promoting safety rules such as prohibiting unlicensed driving, mandatory wearing of helmets and protective gear, banning sidewalk riding, and forbidding carrying more than one passenger.
A Yangju city official stated, “Electric kickboards are a convenient means of transportation, but improper use can become a deadly weapon. Especially as cases of elementary school students recklessly using shared electric kickboards are increasing, we will do our utmost to raise awareness and establish a safe usage culture.”
Meanwhile, the city has been steadily conducting electric kickboard safety campaigns since 2023 and plans to continue strong enforcement and ongoing publicity efforts in the future.
