A woman who entered an unmanned store and stole goods worth several million won has been apprehended by the police.
Wando Police Station in South Jeolla Province announced on the 25th that they have booked a woman in her 40s, identified as A, on suspicion of theft and are currently investigating her.
A is suspected of entering an unmanned local specialty direct sales store inside the Wando Port Passenger Terminal in Wando County, South Jeolla Province, at around 7:24 p.m. on the 15th, and stealing items such as squid, dried filefish, and specialty gift sets worth approximately 3.5 million won (estimated by the victim).
At the time of the crime, A wore a dark-colored hoodie pulled deeply over her head, entered the store, and showed meticulous planning by placing goods into a pre-prepared shopping bag and fleeing the scene in two separate attempts.
A's criminal activity was uncovered when the store owner, suspicious of missing items, checked the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage installed inside the store.
Immediately after receiving the report, the police persistently tracked A's vehicle movements and residence for about 10 days, and finally apprehended her at around 5:30 p.m. on the 24th while she was refueling at a gas station in Wando.
During police questioning, A reportedly stated, "I committed the theft due to panic disorder and depression." It was confirmed that a large number of medicine packets were found in A's vehicle.
Meanwhile, during the investigation, the police confirmed that A had committed a similar crime at the same store on the 6th and are currently looking into additional offenses. The police plan to request an arrest warrant as soon as the investigation is completed.
