Partial Amendment to the Local Government Officials' Service Ordinance Passes Standing Committee
The Gwangju Seo-gu Council, during its 329th temporary session, passed the "Partial Amendment Ordinance to the Seo-gu Local Government Officials' Service Ordinance of Gwangju Metropolitan City," which was proposed by Kim Taejin, a Gwangju Seo-gu council member from the Progressive Party, in the relevant standing committee.
According to Council Member Kim on the 25th, this ordinance expands the existing system, which only guaranteed leave for those involved in ballot counting and voting duties, to also grant special leave to public officials at administrative welfare centers who are responsible for election-related tasks.
With the enforcement of the "National Public Officials Service Regulations" in April last year, leave for those involved in ballot counting and voting duties became legally guaranteed. However, public officials at administrative welfare centers who handle election preparation tasks?such as compiling voter lists, verifying changes like address transfers, and sending out election materials?were not institutionally protected.
Kim stated, "With this ordinance revision, I expect that all public officials involved in election duties will be able to receive special leave without discrimination. I hope this serves as encouragement and consolation for the staff who work hard on election duties, and I will continue to take the lead in improving the working environment and protecting the rights of public officials."
