Receives Order of Service Merit for Advancing Korea Meteorological Administration’s Earthquake Operations

Chonnam National University announced on the 25th that Professor Shin Donghun of the Department of Geological Environmental Science (Director of the Institute for Geological Environmental Hazards) was awarded the Order of Service Merit at the recent ‘2025 World Meteorological Day Ceremony’ in recognition of his contributions to the advancement of the Korea Meteorological Administration’s earthquake operations.

Professor Shin Donghun was recognized for his research and development of earthquake early warning and earthquake magnitude estimation technologies, as well as earthquake analysis techniques utilizing artificial intelligence (AI), which have enhanced the efficiency of the Korea Meteorological Administration’s earthquake operations and provided more accurate earthquake information.

In particular, he has recently participated in the Geological Disaster Response Convergence Education and Research Group (Phase 4 BK21 Project), striving to foster experts in convergence response technologies for public safety and to build a safer society from geological disasters.

Professor Shin Donghun stated, “I will continue to do my utmost to develop more precise and reliable earthquake analysis technologies to contribute to safeguarding public safety.”
