Kwon Seong-dong: "Possibility of Yoon's Impeachment Dismissal... Different from Park's Case"

"More Than Half of the Pension Reform Committee to Consist of the 2030 Generation"

Kwon Seong-dong, floor leader of the People Power Party, stated on the 25th regarding President Yoon Seok-yeol's impeachment trial, "In my personal judgment, there is a possibility of dismissal."

After concluding the floor strategy meeting held at the National Assembly that day, Kwon told reporters, "This is based on my past experience as a National Assembly impeachment prosecutor, current public opinion, and the constitutional court structure, considering comprehensively the differences in the case itself compared to former President Park Geun-hye." Kwon served as the chairman of the impeachment prosecution committee and the chairman of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee during Park's impeachment in 2017.

Regarding the Democratic Party's pressure on Acting President and Prime Minister Han Deok-su to appoint constitutional court nominee Ma Eun-hyeok, Kwon rebutted, "It is an unreasonable claim because it is neither a recommendation by bipartisan agreement nor does the Constitutional Court's decision have the effect of forcing the appointment."

On People Power Party lawmakers protesting in front of the Constitutional Court, he drew a line by distinguishing it from the Democratic Party's street protests. Kwon explained, "Our party members are conducting one-person protests permitted under the Assembly and Demonstration Act," adding, "Unlike the Democratic Party, we are not illegally setting up tents in Gwanghwamun and using them as temporary party offices."

Regarding the formation of the National Assembly's Special Committee on Pension Reform to discuss the National Pension structural reform, he said, "More than half will be in their 20s and 30s to ensure the voices of future generations are well reflected," and added, "We will negotiate and announce it within today."
