The wildfire in Gimhae was completely extinguished after intensive deployment of helicopters and personnel
The Central Disaster Response Headquarters of the Korea Forest Service announced that the main wildfire that broke out at 2:03 PM on the 22nd in San 106, Angok-ri, Hallim-myeon, Gimhae-si, Gyeongsangnam-do, was completely extinguished by 9:00 AM on the 25th.
To extinguish this wildfire, 14 firefighting helicopters, 686 ground personnel, and 45 pieces of equipment including fire trucks were mobilized. The cause is presumed to be waste incineration, and it was confirmed that about 97 hectares of forest were affected by the wildfire (total fire line: 6 km).
To prevent reignition, 231 personnel (including 44 special wildfire suppression team members, 29 forest officials, 40 volunteer firefighters, 36 military personnel, 2 police officers, and 9 others) will remain on site to monitor for remaining embers. In addition, emergency restoration of the affected area is planned to be completed before the rainy season in June.
The Central Disaster Response Headquarters of the Korea Forest Service stated, "Prevention is most important when it comes to wildfires, so we earnestly ask everyone to cooperate in wildfire prevention by refraining from burning rice field ridges, agricultural by-products, and waste, which can cause wildfires."
