Citizen Participation Programs Throughout Libraries
Including Lectures, Performances, Hands-on Activities, and Exhibitions
Gwangsan-gu in Gwangju is transforming its libraries into cultural spaces. On the 25th, Gwangsan-gu announced that to celebrate 'Library Day' (April 12) and Library Week (April 12-18), various programs such as lectures, performances, hands-on activities, and exhibitions will be held at local libraries to welcome citizens.
According to the district, this event will take place at four public libraries?Iyagikkot Library, Jangdeok Library, Cheomdan Library, and Unnam Children's Library?offering programs where citizens can enjoy culture together with books.
First, on the 12th of next month at Iyagikkot Library, travel writer Oh Kibum will be invited to give a lecture on the theme "A Variety of Journeys on Earth," while Unnam Children's Library will host a light-and-shadow performance based on the picture book "The Feast Inside the Tiger's Belly."
On the following day, the 13th, Jangdeok Library will offer a wall-mounted flower pot making workshop under the theme "A Small Healing Within Me," along with citizen performances and exhibitions. At Cheomdan Library, there will be hands-on activities and exhibitions for children under the theme "Mind Seeds: Storytelling." In addition, the first-floor lobby of the district office will feature a book exhibition on the theme of democracy, allowing citizens to reflect on the meaning of democracy through books.
During Library Week, Gwangsan-gu will double the number of books that can be borrowed and implement a special amnesty for overdue borrowers. On Library Day, April 12, a surprise book lending event will also be held.
