Supply of Approximately 1GWh Starting Next Year
Production of LFP Batteries for ESS Planned
LG Energy Solution has been selected as a business partner for a large-scale energy storage system (ESS) project promoted by the Polish state-owned power company.
On the 25th, LG Energy Solution announced that it had signed a battery supply contract with PGE, the Polish state-owned power company.
The signing ceremony held the previous day in Warsaw, Poland, was attended by Jakub Zaborowski, Minister of State Assets, Andrzej Doma?ski, Minister of Finance, Lim Hun-min, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Poland, and other government officials from both countries, as well as Dariusz Majecki, CEO and Chairman of PGE, Maciej G?rski, Vice Chairman of the PGE Operations Management Committee, Kim Hyung-sik, Head of ESS Battery Business Division at LG Energy Solution, and Lee Jang-ha, Head of the Wrocław Corporation.
PGE plans to build an approximately 1GWh scale ESS facility in the northern ?arnowiec region. The project aims to increase the utilization of renewable energy and ensure stable operation of the local power grid, with full commercial operation targeted for 2027.
LG Energy Solution will supply ESS LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) batteries produced at its Wrocław factory in Poland starting in 2026. In particular, to maximize the efficiency of ESS operation, the contract was signed in a turnkey manner, providing comprehensive services including container-type ESS battery systems and engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services in cooperation with European partners, beyond simple battery cell supply.
PGE is Poland’s largest state-owned power company, providing comprehensive services across the entire power sector including generation, transmission, distribution, and power sales to 6 million households, businesses, and public institutions. It is actively promoting ESS projects with the goal of expanding renewable energy.
LG Energy Solution plans to supply ESS LFP batteries produced at its Wrocław factory for this project. The Wrocław factory is currently converting some electric vehicle (EV) production lines to ESS, and this contract secures a stable supply channel for its products.
Executive Director Kim Hyung-sik said, “This project is one of the largest ESS businesses in Europe promoted by LG Energy Solution, maximizing customer value based on local production capabilities and the competitiveness of Europe-dedicated LFP products.”
He added, “Through this contract, we are honored to support Poland’s energy transition and lay the foundation for expanding LG Energy Solution’s ESS business in Europe. We will provide optimal solutions for customers and actively promote the expansion of the European ESS market.”
Chairman Dariusz Majecki said, “We are pleased to open a new era of energy storage by building the first large-scale ESS project in ?arnowiec. We look forward to strengthening cooperation with LG Energy Solution for Poland’s renewable energy transition and sustainable growth of local communities.”
