The Goodwill Day event was held on the 24th from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. in the first-floor lobby of City Hall.
Seongnam City notified its public officials through the internal administrative network, the Saeol system, on the 12th that ‘Monday the 24th is Goodwill Day,’ and on the day of the event, a total of 119 employees brought clothing, miscellaneous goods, books, and home appliances that had been stored at home to the event venue to donate.
The donated items (2,861 pieces) are valued at approximately 10,109,200 KRW when converted to resale prices.
The donated items undergo processing by 64 people with disabilities working at three Goodwill Stores (workshops for people with disabilities) located in Jungang-dong, Seongnam-dong, and Imae-dong within the region, and are sold at affordable prices at those stores.
All proceeds are used as wages for the employees with disabilities at the Goodwill Stores.
As part of its ESG (Environment, Social, and Governance) practice measures, Seongnam City has been operating Goodwill Day events since November last year, visiting City Hall, district offices, and public health centers.
At the first event held at City Hall, 75 people donated a total of 2,001 items (worth approximately 5.67 million KRW).
Subsequently, at the Goodwill Day events held at Bundang District Office and Bundang Public Health Center in January this year, 24 people donated a total of 551 items (worth approximately 1.89 million KRW), and at the event held at Jungwon District Office in February, 41 people donated a total of 908 items (worth approximately 2.67 million KRW).
Next month, an event will be held at Sujeong District Office, and after May, donation events will be held at Seongnam City’s affiliated institutions.
Donors of unused items receive income tax deduction benefits during year-end tax settlements.
A Seongnam City official said, “The Goodwill Day event helps the independence of people with disabilities and protects the environment,” adding, “We will continue the item donation events to spread a public organization culture that fulfills eco-friendly management and social responsibility.”
