Mapo-gu Secures Alternative Route for Daejang-Hongdae Line to Bypass World Cup Park 7 Complex
Receives Review Response from Seobu Metropolitan Metro Co., Ltd. on March 20
Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Gang-su) is on the verge of blocking part of the planned route passing through the underground area of Sangam World Cup Park 7 Complex, which has faced opposition from residents, in connection with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s ‘Daejang-Hongdae Line Metropolitan Railroad Construction Project.’
The existing plan for the ‘Daejang-Hongdae Line Metropolitan Railroad Construction Project’ included a route passing through the privately owned Sangam World Cup Park 7 Complex, raising significant concerns among residents about noise, vibration, and cracks.
In response, Mapo-gu delivered a petition submitted by the Residents’ Representative Meeting of Sangam World Cup Park 7 Complex to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in October 2024, reflecting the wishes of the apartment residents opposing the Daejang-Hongdae Line route.
The petition submitted by the Residents’ Representative Meeting contained signatures from 1,503 residents.
Furthermore, Mapo-gu initiated a technical feasibility study to review route changes to ensure that the Daejang-Hongdae Line metropolitan railroad would not encroach on the apartment’s private property, aiming to protect residents’ right to life and property.
The study confirmed that even without passing beneath Sangam World Cup Park 7 Complex, the Daejang-Hongdae Line could secure a sufficient railroad curve radius in compliance with metropolitan railroad guidelines.
Accordingly, in February 2025, Mapo-gu immediately sent official letters to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the Korea Rail Network Authority, and Seobu Metropolitan Metro Co., Ltd., strongly emphasizing the necessity of revising the project plan.
Thanks to Mapo-gu’s proactive efforts, on March 20, Seobu Metropolitan Metro Co., Ltd. announced that it had devised a plan for the project route to avoid passing through Sangam World Cup Park 7 Complex and will proceed with requesting approval of the implementation plan from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport reflecting this change.
Mapo-gu plans to carefully oversee the project until completion to ensure that the Daejang-Hongdae Line route proceeds without causing harm or inconvenience to residents.
Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, stated, “Infrastructure projects must be carried out with residents’ safety and living environment as the top priority,” adding, “Mapo-gu will continue to make every effort to enhance communication with residents and create a better living environment.”
Meanwhile, reflecting the situation in Sangam-dong, where major broadcasting stations, IT company business districts, and large-scale residential complexes are concentrated, Mapo-gu has formed a promotion committee and is conducting a feasibility study to establish a Digital Media City (DMC) station on the Daejang-Hongdae Line.
