The Literature Translation Institute of Korea, under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, announced on the 24th that it is recruiting submissions for the Korean Literature Translation Award New Translator Prize to discover emerging translators.
This New Translator Prize competition will be held in three categories: literature, film, and webtoons. Any new translator who has never received official translation support and has no experience publishing Korean literature can apply. The literature category is open to both domestic and foreign individuals who have no experience publishing Korean literature translations overseas, and the webtoon category is open to domestic and foreign individuals with one or fewer screenings, submissions, or public releases.
Winners in each language group will receive a prize of 5 million KRW and a plaque. For those residing overseas, expenses for attending the year-end awards ceremony will also be supported.
Jeon Su-yong, President of the Translation Institute, stated, “As Korean literature gains global attention, the role of translators who convey the context and sensibility of Korean culture has become even more important,” and added, “We hope that many creative and capable emerging translators will be discovered through this New Translator Prize competition.”
The application period is from June 1 to July 31, and submissions can be made through the Korean Literature Overseas Expansion Activation Platform.
