Estimated 1,500 People Displaced
Damage Expected to Worsen Due to Strong Winds
The Gyeongbuk Community Chest of Korea (Chairman Jeon Wooheon) announced on the 24th that it has launched a special fundraising campaign along with providing emergency support of 20 million KRW to aid victims of wildfires in the Yeongnam region in 2025.
The wildfire that started in Uiseong-gun, Gyeongbuk on the 22nd is estimated to have caused damage to 7,005 hectares and left 1,500 people displaced as of the 24th. Strong winds and dry weather are making firefighting efforts difficult, resulting in the spread of the damage.
Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co., Ltd. is providing meal support to volunteers at the wildfire site using a meal vehicle supported through the Community Chest of Korea in Gyeongbuk on the 24th.
The Gyeongbuk Community Chest immediately provided 20 million KRW in donations to support the firefighting efforts on site and has opened a fundraising channel to support wildfire victims who have lost their precious homes and are exposed to danger. The organization plans to conduct a special fundraising campaign until April 30.
Jeon Wooheon, Chairman of the Gyeongbuk Community Chest, stated, "I sincerely offer my condolences to those who have lost their homes due to the wildfire," and added, "We will do our utmost to ensure that the valuable donations for the victims are delivered well."
