Gwangjin-gu, Sewing Industry Enters the Age of Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Lectures on April 8 and 22, Applications Open from March 20

Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) is recruiting participants for a sewing industry education program utilizing generative AI, targeting small fashion sewing business owners and entrepreneurs at the Gwangjin-gu Sewing Industry Comprehensive Support Center.

According to Statistics Korea, there are about 1,200 sewing companies in Gwangjin-gu. Most of these companies are facing difficulties due to aging and labor shortages. In response, the district has prepared an education program introducing artificial intelligence in the fashion and sewing fields to revitalize the local sewing industry and enhance competitiveness.

This education program, hosted by the Gwangjin-gu Sewing Industry Comprehensive Support Center, is open to small fashion sewing business owners, entrepreneurs, and designers. Professional instructors will teach over two sessions focusing on business plan build-up education and fashion product planning practice.

The education schedule varies by course. The business plan build-up education will be held on April 8, providing tips on the 2025 government startup support plan and how to write business plans using generative AI. The fashion product planning practice will take place on April 22, offering practical skills such as how to use image generation tools and design planning.

The recruitment periods are ▲ March 20 to April 3 for the business plan build-up education and ▲ April 3 to 17 for the fashion product planning practice.

A total of 24 participants will be selected, 12 for each program, and the courses are free of charge. Residents interested in participating can apply through the Gwangjin-gu Sewing Industry Comprehensive Support Center website. For more details, inquiries can be made to the Gwangjin-gu Office Regional Economy Division.

Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “We expect this AI technology-based education to revitalize the stagnant fashion sewing industry. We hope for much interest and participation.” He added, “We will continue to prepare various education programs and do our best to ensure the sewing industry can grow sustainably.”
