About 50 people attended the opening ceremony, including local residents, Namyangju Mayor Joo Gwang-deok, Namyangju City Council Chairman Jo Seong-dae, and heads of organizations.

The existing Sudong-myeon Welfare Center (located at 23-1 Naebang-ri, Sudong-myeon), completed in 1991, had become aged after 33 years, requiring continuous safety management, and modernization of facilities and environmental improvements for users were needed.

Accordingly, the city established a welfare center construction plan in 2021 and invested a total budget of 2.61 billion KRW (850 million KRW from provincial special grants, 1.76 billion KRW from city funds) to build a three-story building with a total floor area of 493.17㎡.

The welfare center, consisting of a daycare center and senior welfare facilities, was constructed with a total budget of 2.61 billion KRW (850 million KRW from provincial special grants, 1.76 billion KRW from city funds) and has a total floor area of 493.17㎡ across three above-ground floors.

Namyangju City started construction in February last year, completed it in November, finished facility maintenance, and began full-scale operation.

The newly renovated Sudong-myeon Welfare Center places a municipal daycare center on the first floor to provide infants and toddlers with a safe and comfortable environment, while the second and third floors are used as multipurpose spaces such as a senior citizens' hall and village hall. In particular, a sauna facility was installed on the second floor to support the health and leisure activities of the elderly.

Mayor Joo Gwang-deok said, “This is not just a simple welfare center but will be the warm heart of the community where all generations in our region gather to share their stories,” adding, “I hope it becomes an important space that strengthens communication and solidarity so that citizens can lead better lives.”
