United for "Citizen Safety and Happiness"... A Successful Model of Military-Civilian Cooperation
Mayor Kim Byung-su: "Through Ongoing Exchange and Cooperation, I Hope the Military and Local Community Will Grow as One"
Gyeonggi Gimpo City and the Marine Corps 2nd Division have joined hands once again for a highly tangible cooperation where the military and citizens can coexist and develop together. This not only strengthens the safety of the local government but also raises expectations for tourism revitalization.
On the 24th, Gimpo City signed a friendship agreement at the headquarters of the Marine Corps 2nd Division with five battalions belonging to the Marine Corps 2nd Division and the towns of Tongjin-eup, Yangchon-eup, Daegot-myeon, Wolgot-myeon, and Haseong-myeon where the battalions are located. On the 24th, Gimpo City signed a friendship agreement at the headquarters of the Marine Corps 2nd Division with five battalions belonging to the division and the towns of Tongjin-eup, Yangchon-eup, Daegot-myeon, Wolgot-myeon, and Haseong-myeon where these battalions are located.
This agreement was promoted as an extension of the "Military-Civilian Win-Win Development Council Agreement" signed on August 29 last year and the "Marine Corps-Gimpo City Hall Job Policy Sector Business Agreement" signed on February 21 this year. It was prepared to foster close cooperation and mutual development between each town/myeon and battalion-level units.
In particular, as part of the "Military-Civilian Win-Win Development Council Agreement," both sides have explored development directions through several working-level consultations. As a result, they have opened the path to mutual development through the establishment of a Win-Win Cooperation TF, signing of the Military-Civilian Win-Win Development Council MOU, hosting of the Marine Corps Cultural Festival, job business agreements, and the "Gimpo City 5 Towns/Myeons - Marine Corps 2nd Division 5 Battalions Friendship Ceremony."
The agreement ceremony was attended by Kim Byung-su, Mayor of Gimpo, the commander of the Marine Corps 2nd Division, heads of each town/myeon, and battalion commanders, who pledged mutual cooperation. Through this agreement, Gimpo City and the Marine Corps 2nd Division agreed to actively promote ▲ rapid and systematic cooperation during integrated defense operations ▲ activation of civilian support and volunteer activities during peacetime and disasters ▲ expansion of benefits for Marine Corps 2nd Division soldiers, military personnel, and military families in using Gimpo City’s tourist attractions and cultural facilities ▲ and revitalization of Gimpo City tourism through online and offline promotions.
Mayor Kim Byung-su of Gimpo said, “Through this agreement, I hope Gimpo City and the Marine Corps 2nd Division can cooperate more closely and develop mutually,” adding, “We will do our best to ensure that the military and local community grow as one through continuous exchange and cooperation.”
Gimpo City is a strategic point for national security in South Korea, with the Marine Corps stationed there, and 70.8% of the city’s total area designated as a military facility protection zone, making close cooperation with the military essential. Accordingly, Gimpo City and the Marine Corps 2nd Division are promoting various collaborations for the mutual development of the military and local community.
