Chungnam Province is focusing on nurturing secondary batteries, a key component of electric vehicles, as a future core industry. The province plans to establish a "battery triangle" by devising specialized strategies tailored to the regional industrial structure, including urban air mobility (UAM), electric vehicles, and eco-friendly battery reuse.
On the 24th, the province announced this plan during the 4th on-site economic situation inspection meeting held at Vitzrocell, a lithium battery manufacturer located in Dangjin.
According to the province, the meeting discussed plans to develop Seosan and Dangjin as next-generation battery research and development hubs centered on UAM.
To establish a new industry hub linked to nearby industrial complexes such as Seosan Technovalley, the province will invest 25 billion won by 2030 to promote projects such as a next-generation battery research center and infrastructure construction, including lithium metal thin film manufacturing process equipment.
In Cheonan and Asan, which have an automobile industry base, the province will establish an "electric vehicle-centered intelligent battery industry cluster."
By 2030, the province will create a battery integrated system evaluation support center for fire safety response and build a digital transformation intelligent battery system manufacturing and verification platform.
Boryeong, Hongseong, and Buyeo will be developed as centers for eco-friendly battery reuse and resource circulation.
To this end, the province plans to invest 40 billion won to establish a lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery full-cycle platform and a shared platform design support center for the industrialization of post-use battery reuse.
Governor Kim Tae-heum said, "We will establish a battery triangle hub for a new leap forward in the secondary battery industry," and added, "We will actively secure government-funded projects and devise our own support measures."
