Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo District, Participates in Wildfire Prevention Campaign at Maebongsan Mountain

Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo District, Participates in Wildfire Prevention Campaign at Maebongsan Mountain

Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, participated in the 'Wildfire Prevention Campaign' held on the afternoon of March 24 at Maebongsan and other locations in Mapo-gu.

Recently, wildfires occurring across the country have caused significant loss of life and property damage. The Korea Forest Service also raised the wildfire disaster alert level for the Seoul area from 'Caution' to 'Warning' on the 22nd.

Additionally, since the forests in Mapo-gu, such as Sangamsan and Maebongsan, are adjacent to residential areas, special caution is required during the dry spring season.

Accordingly, Mapo-gu held a 'Wildfire Prevention Campaign' at six mountains within the district to raise awareness and make every effort to prevent wildfires.

To prevent wildfires, cooking, camping, lighting campfires, or smoking are prohibited outside designated areas. If a wildfire is discovered, it must be reported immediately to the forest authorities, fire station, or police station.

On this day, Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, along with about 200 Mapo-gu employees and members of professional organizations, visited Maebongsan, Seongmisan, and Wausan in sequence to distribute wildfire prevention promotional materials and urge residents to actively cooperate in forest protection.

In addition, he requested the relevant departments to regularly inspect wildfire suppression equipment and further strengthen the wildfire monitoring system.

After the campaign, Mayor Park Gang-su said, "Wildfires start from very trivial causes, so we all need to be vigilant," and added, "We will operate an emergency duty system and do our best to make Mapo a safe place that protects the lives and property of its residents."

Mapo-gu established a Wildfire Prevention Countermeasures Headquarters on January 24 and is maintaining a wildfire prevention system until May 15.
