Securing Electronic Data from Prosecutor Lee's Tenure at the Eastern District Prosecutors' Office
Statute of Limitations for the Alleged Offense Expires on the 29th
The High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Division (HCOCID) investigating Lee Jeong-seop, a prosecutor at Daejeon High Prosecutors' Office, on charges of 'leaking civilian criminal records,' conducted a search and seizure at the Seoul Eastern District Prosecutors' Office on the 24th.
The HCOCID's Investigation Division 4 (Chief Prosecutor Cha Jeong-hyun) sent prosecutors and investigators to the Eastern District Prosecutors' Office in the afternoon to execute the search warrant and secured materials related to the prosecutor's alleged official secret leakage case.
It is reported that the HCOCID executed a search warrant on the server to verify electronic data such as the internal messenger used by the prosecutor while serving as the head of the Criminal Division 6 at the Eastern District Prosecutors' Office from 2019 to 2020.
The prosecutor is accused of accessing the Supreme Prosecutors' Office Criminal Justice Information System (KICS) server to inquire about the criminal records of individuals unrelated to investigative duties, such as housekeepers and golf course staff, and then leaking this information to his in-laws.
The HCOCID previously conducted a search and seizure of the Supreme Prosecutors' Office Information and Communications Department server on the 21st in connection with this case. On the same day, Kang Mi-jeong, spokesperson for the Party for Justice and Innovation and the prosecutor's brother-in-law's wife, who reported the prosecutor's misconduct allegations, was also questioned as a witness.
The HCOCID is accelerating the investigation, considering that the statute of limitations for the prosecutor's official secret leakage charges expires on the 29th.
