Eonju Lee Welcomes Kim Minjeon’s Call for "Mass Resignation of Lawmakers," Supports By-Election

Lee Eonju: "What is the point of the badge... Better to reorganize the National Assembly"
Kim Minjeon: "Support for total resignation and re-elections"

Some members of the People Power Party drew attention on the 24th by unusually expressing support for Lee Eon-ju, a Supreme Council member of the Democratic Party of Korea, who called for "the total resignation of ruling and opposition lawmakers followed by re-elections."

On the same day, Kim Min-jeon, a member of the People Power Party, posted on social media (SNS), "I support Lee's call for total resignation and re-elections." Following this, out-of-parliament party branch chiefs Lee Sang-gyu (Seoul Seongbuk-eul), Lee Yong (Gyeonggi Hanam-gap), Jo Gwang-han (Gyeonggi Namyangju-byeong), and Shin Jae-kyung (Incheon Namdong-eul) also posted messages echoing the same sentiment.

Earlier that day, at a Supreme Council meeting held in Gwanghwamun, Seoul, the Supreme Council member said, "If the Constitutional Court continues to delay (the impeachment ruling on President Yoon Seok-yeol) and if some among them hold different views, we have no choice but to directly ask the people for their final decision." He added, "If necessary, all ruling and opposition lawmakers should resign en masse and hold a general election again."

He further emphasized, "If the country drags on without suppressing even such acts of rebellion and grants impunity, leading to an unconstitutional situation, what meaning is there in wearing a badge in such a country?" and "Given this level of rebellion, it would be better to reorganize the National Assembly, reform the system, and make a fresh start."

As the impeachment ruling on President Yoon has been continuously delayed, the Supreme Council member pressured the Constitutional Court by mentioning the total resignation of lawmakers. In response, Kim and the ruling party welcomed the idea, aiming to overturn the current opposition-majority National Assembly.

Meanwhile, Yoon Sang-hyun, a member of the People Power Party, also mentioned the total resignation of lawmakers through SNS on the 12th. Yoon argued, "The only way to block and resist the Democratic Party's legislative dictatorship is to dissolve the National Assembly," and insisted, "The People Power Party must resolve to resign from their posts en masse."
