Heo Yunhong, CEO of GS Construction, has been elected as a director of the Korea Housing Association. GS Construction is returning to a director position for the first time in 12 years. With GS Construction joining the association as a director, the association is expected to gain new vitality.

According to related industries on the 24th, the association held its 33rd regular general meeting on the same day and passed the motion to elect CEO Heo as a director. The association reported on business performance and income and expenditure settlements, and also approved the business plans and budget for the year.

This is the first time since August 2013 that GS Construction has participated in the board of directors of the Korea Housing Association. CEO Heo joined as a director at the association’s request. The association’s board of directors is centered around Chairman Yoon Youngjun, who serves as an advisor to Hyundai Construction. Oh Secheol, CEO of Samsung C&T, holds the position of senior vice chairman, while three others?Choi Mungyu, CEO of Hanshin Engineering & Construction, and Choi Ikhun, CEO of HDC Hyundai Development Company?serve as vice chairmen. Existing directors include Park Sangshin, CEO of DL E&C, Kim Bohyun, CEO of Daewoo Construction, and 16 others.

With CEO Heo taking on the director role at the association, GS Construction’s influence within the industry is expected to grow stronger. Since the association is an organization with a voice on various housing projects, systems, regulatory improvements, and difficulties, being part of the board allows GS Construction to raise its voice more than before. GS Construction received a business suspension order from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport due to the collapse of the underground parking lot at an apartment complex in Geomdan, Incheon, in 2023, and has filed an injunction which the court accepted. Jin Hyunhwan, the first vice minister of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, attended the general meeting.

Since assuming the role of CEO of GS Construction in 2023, Heo has been focusing all efforts on strengthening quality. Last year, the company also achieved new orders worth 19.91 trillion won, marking the highest record since its founding, demonstrating strong performance. In November last year, GS Construction introduced the new character of its Xi brand and changed its logo.
