The safe containers have been installed and are currently in operation in four villages in Geumgangsong-myeon (Wangpi 1-ri, Wangpi 2-ri, Sogwang 2-ri [Daegwangcheon Basin], Ssangjeon 2-ri) since the 10th.

After a heavy snowfall in February 2024 caused a power outage that isolated some villages in Geumgangsong-myeon, causing significant inconvenience for residents, Uljin County recognized the need to change its disaster response strategy for high-risk isolated villages.

Following policy meetings, as part of a proactive relief measure, the county installed ‘Safe Containers for Disaster Preparedness in Isolation-Risk Villages’ in remote mountain villages with a high risk of isolation during disasters. These containers are stocked with food, emergency medical supplies, and non-electric daily necessities. The county plans to deploy additional safe containers to other high-risk isolated villages in the future.

In fact, during the heavy snowfall from March 17 to 18, a resident who had evacuated to the community center in advance said, “These days, without electricity, there’s no heating and it’s hard to cook, but having flashlights, gas burners, and food stored near the community center makes me feel I could live safely even if we become isolated. When we evacuated this time, the villagers could spend the night together with peace of mind.”

County Governor Son Byeongbok stated, “We will continue to strengthen our proactive response to disaster situations so that residents can lead their daily lives with peace of mind, free from various disasters and calamities.”
