The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Honam University (headed by Oh Seokjin) announced on the 24th that it had conducted an 'ESG-Based Major Sharing Field Study' to provide students with practical experience in ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management.
This field study took place over two days, from the 17th to the 18th, at Suncheonman National Garden, Suncheonman Wetland, and the site of the Jukrim 1 District Urban Development Project in Yeosu. As part of the Humanities and Social Sciences Convergence Talent Training Project for Global Coexistence (HUSS), the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering organized this field study to allow students to learn about the latest technologies and policies on-site.
On the first day, participating students visited Suncheonman National Garden and Suncheonman Wetland to study cases of introducing eco-friendly elements in cities and ways to utilize water resources. In particular, by directly experiencing Suncheon City's case of building green infrastructure through the national garden and utilizing wetland environments, students were able to appreciate the importance of sustainable civil and environmental engineering technologies.
On the second day, with the cooperation of Jeonnam Development Corporation (President Jang Chungmo), students visited the site of the Jukrim 1 District Urban Development Project in Yeosu to learn about the process of creating an eco-friendly smart city and public development projects incorporating ESG elements. During this process, students gained hands-on experience by observing real-world applications of environmentally friendly technologies in actual development sites.
Professor Oh Seokjin stated, "It was a valuable opportunity for students to develop the ability to apply academic concepts to reality by directly experiencing the latest technologies and practical application cases related to their major."
