High-Quality Rice from Goheung to Enter Vietnamese Market

Goheung County Signs 2 Million Dollar
Agricultural and Fisheries Export Agreement
with Dongyang Nongsusan in Vietnam

Goheung County in Jeollanam-do (Governor Gong Youngmin) announced on the 24th that it has signed an agricultural and fisheries export agreement worth 2 million dollars with Dongyang Nongsusan (CEO Hong Deokja), located in Hanoi, Vietnam.

This agreement marks an important turning point for Goheung County’s agricultural and fisheries specialties to make a full-scale entry into the Vietnamese market, and especially, it takes the first step in exporting Goheung’s high-quality rice to Vietnam.

Dongyang Nongsusan has a strong distribution network in three major cities in Vietnam: Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh, and Da Nang. The company has recorded sales of 12.62 million dollars and annually imports Korean agricultural and fisheries products worth 4.24 million dollars, establishing itself as a major distributor of Korean agricultural and fisheries products in Vietnam.

As a follow-up to this agreement, Dongyang Nongsusan plans to import and sell a variety of Goheung’s agricultural and fisheries specialties, including not only seaweed from Goheung but also citron and kelp, in the Vietnamese market.

As part of this agreement, a contract was also signed to export 20 tons of Goheung rice to Vietnam. Since Vietnam is one of the world’s leading rice producers, exporting Goheung rice there is interpreted as international recognition of its quality and competitiveness. Goheung County expects this to serve as a stepping stone for even more of its agricultural and fisheries products to be exported to Vietnam and other Southeast Asian markets. Additionally, wild greens such as chwinamul produced in Goheung are also increasing their potential for entry into the Southeast Asian market, including Vietnam.

Governor Gong Youngmin stated during the agreement process, “Goheung is the largest producer of wild greens in the country, equipped with mild sea breezes, a warm climate, and eco-friendly cultivation techniques. We have sufficient competitiveness in the Southeast Asian market, including Vietnam.” The Vietnamese side also showed great interest, leading to practical export negotiations.

A representative from Dongyang Nongsusan said, “Thanks to Governor Gong Youngmin’s active promotion, interest in Goheung’s wild greens, which were not originally included in the agreement, naturally grew and led to negotiations. We will do our best to ensure that Goheung’s excellent agricultural products receive much love overseas in the future.”

Governor Gong Youngmin said, “I am very pleased that through this agreement, Goheung’s agricultural and fisheries products will be officially exported to Vietnam. The export of Goheung rice is an important achievement that proves its quality and competitiveness, and we plan to aggressively market it not only in Southeast Asia but also in the United States, Australia, and Europe.”
