KB Kookmin Bank will recruit users to participate in the digital currency test 'Project Hangang' starting from the 25th. Those who wish to participate can apply for a preliminary 'open notification' through KB Star Banking, and applicants will receive a KB Star Banking notification at the 'deposit token electronic wallet opening available time' on April 1st.
The digital currency test 'Project Hangang' is a pilot test of digital currency conducted from April 1st to the end of June, targeting 100,000 general users. Major commercial banks, including the Bank of Korea and KB Kookmin Bank, will jointly participate. Using the payment method 'deposit token,' users can experience digital currency payments at online and offline affiliated stores such as ▲7-Eleven ▲Kyobo Bookstore ▲Ediya ▲Hanaro Mart ▲Hyundai Home Shopping ▲Mode House.
Customers who make payments with 'deposit tokens' through KB Star Banking will receive 3,000 Star Points and enjoy benefits such as a 10% discount when paying at 7-Eleven.
KB Kookmin Bank is participating in 'Project Hangang' solely with its own technology. Since 2023, KB Kookmin Bank has launched a 'digital wallet service' based on its own technology and has secured more than 600,000 digital wallet users. In addition, it has focused on securing technological capabilities by launching a blockchain-based 'encrypted storage service.' By participating in this 'Project Hangang' with only internal personnel, KB Kookmin Bank plans to demonstrate its digital financial technology and capabilities.
A KB Kookmin Bank official stated, "We hope many customers will experience 'deposit token' payments through this project," and added, "We will do our best to create a safe and convenient financial environment by actively cooperating with government agencies and others so that digital currency, which is attracting attention as a future payment method, can be commercialized."
