Ordinance Proposed to Support the Creation of a Barrier-Free Tourism Environment

Yoon Jeongmin, a member of the Gwangju Seo-gu Council (Sangmu 2-dong, Seochang-dong, Kumho 1 and 2-dong), has taken the lead in proposing the "Ordinance on Creating and Supporting a Barrier-Free Tourism Environment for Tourism Vulnerable Groups in Seo-gu, Gwangju."

According to Councilor Yoon on the 24th, this ordinance establishes the following: ▲the responsibilities of the district mayor for creating a barrier-free tourism environment ▲details of tourism environment development projects ▲the basis for financial support ▲the establishment of committees and cooperative systems ▲regulations for commendations. These provisions lay the foundation for projects aimed at alleviating the inconveniences faced by residents who experience difficulties in tourism due to social, economic, or physical constraints.

Councilor Yoon stated, "With the enactment of this ordinance, it will be possible not only to support the mobility of tourism vulnerable groups, but also to implement projects such as improving tourist facilities, providing barrier-free tourism information, and developing content for these groups. Through raising social awareness of barrier-free tourism, we expect to grant all residents the right to enjoy equal travel opportunities."

She added, "Creating a barrier-free tourism environment should provide a convenient and safe tourism setting for all residents, not just the tourism vulnerable, and is expected to play a positive role in utilizing and revitalizing tourism resources. I will continue to work on legislative activities to improve the tourism environment so that every resident can enjoy equal and safe tourism activities."

The ordinance passed the review of the Planning and General Affairs Committee of the Seo-gu Council on the 24th and will take effect immediately upon promulgation by the Seo-gu Mayor after being approved at the 329th 2nd plenary session on the 26th.
